I’ve always enjoyed fishing, even as a young kid. I would go with my dad on weekends to fish, and I’d even participate in fishing tournaments at the age of 4. It was always a lot of fun.
We kept our hobby up into adulthood. Just a few years ago, my dad said he wanted to give fly fishing a go, and maybe we could do a weekend trip for his 60th birthday. I had only tried it a handful of times with friends, but I never completely took up the sport. I told my dad that I was in, and that I’d get to work figuring out what we needed to do.
I got in touch with my friend who was an avid fly fisherman, and asked for his advice on how to actually get started on our own. He recommended Trouts Fly Fishing for a lot of learning resources, and to rent the gear to start, since we were new at it. I got to work, because my dad’s birthday was only about 5 weeks away and I had a good deal of planning to do.
When the day came, we were ready to get our gear and get moving. We were only traveling about 4 hours away, so we didn’t go too crazy with overpacking. One thing that neither of us took into account was how much space the fly fishing rods were going to take up in the car. It wasn’t that they didn’t quite fit, it was just inconvenient when we wanted to grab something from the cooler in the backseat or just get something from the center console, which is where we both typically kept our wallets.
Other than the minor annoyances, the trip was a pretty big success and my dad was definitely happy. He really enjoyed fly fishing, and wanted to keep at it. So I continued to get the things we needed from Trouts Fly Fishing. We started with rods and accessories and would just go for little local day trips.
The space issue wasn’t as annoying when you weren’t going on a longer trip, but as we did these more often, the idea of taking a bigger trip came up, potentially as a tradition for my dad’s birthday, since his occurred during the warmer months of the year. It dawned on me that I’d need a better way to transport our rods.
I checked into Trouts Fly Fishing yet again, and looked into the Riversmith River Quiver Rod Carrier. This was the answer to our travel problems. It may seem minor to some, but being on the road is already uncomfortable, and having things in your way makes for an even more uncomfortable situation.
I purchased the Riversmith River Quiver Rod Carrier that holds 2 rods for my dad as a Christmas gift. I explained to him that it would make for a much better traveling experience, and we could travel further distances now if we’d like to. He was thrilled about all of it: the prospect of taking more and different fly fishing trips, and the space saving rod carrier. I highly recommend the product to all fly fishermen.
