The SBI clerk syllabus is similar to most other banking sector exams. Aspirants are tested on their ability to answer questions from areas of Quantitative Aptitude Reasoning, English, and General Awareness. Each of these sections has a detailed syllabus with a long list of topics. If you are starting your preparation for the SBI clerk exam, getting a thorough understanding of the syllabus would be the first step in the right direction.
Syllabus for Prelims Exam
The prelims exam consists of three sections:
Quantitative Aptitude
This section is considered one of the most challenging. Candidates are required to answer 35 questions within 20 minutes. The topics covered include volume and surface area, stock and shares, time and distance, equation and algebra, data interpretation, work and time, upstream and downstream, profit and loss, probability, permutation and combination, mixtures and alligations, partnerships, number systems, simple and compound interests, time and distance, simplification and averages.
While the questions in this section tend to be more difficult than those in other sections, a well-prepared candidate can score well in this area. Practicing mock tests will help.
Reasoning Ability
The reasoning ability section consists of two main areas, logical reasoning and verbal and non-verbal reasoning. This section could seem exceptionally lengthy, and regular practice to improve speed is crucial.
The major topics covered in this section of the SBI clerk syllabus are puzzles, seating arrangements, blood relations, direction tests, syllogism, coding-decoding, statements and assumptions, order and ranking data sufficiency, input and output inequalities, alphanumeric series, and tabulation.
English Language
The English section is usually the easiest. Aspirants who are reasonably well versed in the English language can handle this section with ease. The syllabus includes sentence correction, sentence rearrangement, synonyms and antonyms, cloze test, idioms and phrases, vocabulary, and fillers.
Reading comprehensions are a significant part of this section.
SBI Clerk Mains Syllabus
The syllabus of the mains exam is the same as that of the prelims exam. The mains exam has one additional section for testing the candidate’s grasp on general knowledge and awareness of current affairs of national and international importance.
General Awareness
This section includes topics like banking and financial terms, banking abbreviations, fiscal and monetary policy, awards and honors, the Indian Constitution, important government schemes, static general awareness, and current affairs.
The difficulty level of the Mains examination can be higher than that of the prelims. The mains exam is also the most vital part of the selection process. Scoring well in this stage of the selection process may guarantee your success. Candidates may also have to prepare more comprehensively for this stage.
Practice Is the Most Important Determinant
Aspirants will be asked to answer questions on each of the sections mentioned above within specified time limits. The authority will also impose sectional cutoffs and an overall cutoff. The best way to gain speed and confidence while preparing is by practicing mock tests and working out previous year’s question papers. The exam is highly competitive, and there has been a steady increase in the number of candidates applying for the exam. Thorough preparation and practice are the only ways to qualify as an SBI clerk.
