A Clean Kitchen, You Say?
Do you struggle to find time to tidy up? Do you find yourself coming home to lots of clutter in the kitchen? How did it even get there? You ask yourself. Well, here is your kitchen cleaning guide that’ll hopefully help you if you find yourself like the examples above. None of these tips are to be followed in any specific order, just what works best for you!
- Clear the Way
Start in one corner of the kitchen so you don’t find yourself getting overwhelmed with everything. Be sure to remove everything in that area that wouldn’t usually go there. If you have a bin, crate, or a basket that’s empty, try to use that to contain the miscellaneous items taken off the counter. Try not to stop working on the kitchen to put these misplaced items away.
- Set Aside a Good Chunk of Time
If you try to do this in just 5 minutes, I guarantee you’ll be more frustrated than when you originally started. Be sure to have at least two hours to get a good start. This will most likely help you stay on task. Look around for any large pans,pots, or other useful items that have been left behind. - Start by the Sink
If you have one, put all of the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Wash any lingering dishes in the sink or around the area, like mugs, water bottles, etc. Remember to clean and disinfect the sink itself when you’re finished with the dishes.
- The Microwave, Oven and Stove
These are usually spots that collect lots of loose splashes of sauce, crumbs, and other food particles. Spray down and scrub the handles and pulls of these larger appliances. It may be easier to wipe down the inside of the microwave, but if you can do so safely, get in the oven too. If your microwave has a plate that rotates, be sure to remove the plate and give it a good scrub, too! Be careful to note that none of these are on and hot while you’re trying to clean them. Get all of that sticky debris out of there! - Wipe it Down!
This includes any extra appliances, like an air fryer, slow cooker, and other appliances. Be sure to empty the toaster tray & shake out crumbs, because we forget about it from time to time. Clear out the coffee maker, the mixer, etc. Pro-tip: unplug these items before starting.
- Clean & Clear the Refrigerator
Oh the fridge. How often do you shove something in there to keep it cool and forget it two weeks later? Clear all of the foods out that are no longer in use, expired, or smell bad. Don’t forget the freezer, too. Spray the inner sides, doors, top and bottom of the refrigerator with all-purpose cleaner, then wipe down with a wet rag. Put what you will use back in and remember to wipe the handles and outer surface of the fridge. - Dust the tops of the fridge and cabinets
Did you know that the average person creates 1/3 ounce of dead skin each week, which is about the weight of a car key? It’s true, and it’s important to dust the commonly used areas in your house from time to time.
